The San Mateo Resource Conservation District, in collaboration with San Mateo County Department of Parks and Recreation (County Parks), are proposing to install large wood features in Pescadero Creek in Pescadero Creek County Park to improve habitat for protected fish species through the Pescadero Creek Habitat Enhancement at Pescadero Creek County Park Project (Project). The Project will build complexity in Pescadero Creek to create the diverse habitat types required by various aquatic species native to the watershed. The Project will enhance over 2 miles of habitat by creating high-velocity refugia, slowing flows, providing cover in pools, and reducing incision. The Project will continue the RCD’s efforts to implement wood loading projects in streams identified as wood deficient and support the recovery of endangered coho salmon and threatened steelhead.
The purpose of this request for bids is to select a contractor to install approximately 126 wood pieces (primarily Douglas-fir and redwood trees) at 35 sites along over 2 miles of Pescadero Creek via direct felling (accelerated recruitment) methods. See Attachment J for a reference to this method. The selected contractor will work closely with RCD staff and the RCD’s contracted forester, Vaughan Forestry, during project implementation. Work will be conducted between September 16 and October 31, 2023.
A mandatory pre-bid tour will be held at the project site. Attendance is required for all firms submitting proposals.
